Most Consumers Do Not Know the Cost of Care

Super Bowl Sunday is a great time to talk to family and friends…well at least during that first half! It’s amazing how little people understand their own health benefits. Ask them about their Facebook page or the TV they are hoping to buy and they are educated consumers. Ask them about what they really pay for health insurance and their eyes glaze over. One will say that he pays $200/month but didn’t realize he has a $3000 deductible, not understanding that he may be better off paying cash when he visits an urgent care facility instead of showing his ID card. Regardless, we as an industry need to educate the consumers of health care if we ever want prices to drop or the system to be held accountable.
