The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have issued a new Medicare rule to implement inflation-adjusted payment increases for acute-care hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Hospitals will receive $1.2 billion for capital and operating costs, while long-term care facilities will receive $72 million. A new patient safety program and refining of the hospital readmissions reduction program will also be included in the final rule to implement changes in the Affordable Care Act.
